We all talk about having good work/ life balance, and it’s definitely proven to have positive impacts on people’s mental health. This National Work Life Week 2024, we’re delving into why having a good balance of work and home life, is beneficial for people’s mental health and why actually, it’s good for business…

Having a good work/ life balance is good at helping people’s mental health as it allows for people to have some time away from the stresses of work, meaning that employees aren’t over worked or over stressed with their workloads. Having a good balance means that when employees are at work, they’ll be there with a fresh and replenished mindset, carrying out tasks to their best capabilities.

How can occupational health help with this?

By correctly managing workloads at work, and having support for wellbeing, mental health, and physical issues, it means that employees can be happier inside and outside of work. If employees feel like they’re supported at work, in whatever way they need, then when they’re outside of work they’ll be able to enjoy their time more and keep work issues at work, rather than letting it affect their mental health all of the time.

How Wellbeing Support enhances work performance

This then means that they’re refreshed and have a positive mindset when they come into work, leading them to produce great quality work. We all know that it’s very easy to let work issues seep into our home life and so having access to wellbeing support (mental and physical) can teach employees how to manage their stress, but also provide clinical help if it’s needed.

Reducing physical health risks with Occupational Health

In workplaces, no matter what environment they are, it’s very easy to develop physical problems such as musculoskeletal issues. By providing occupational health support, this minimises the risk of staff developing these conditions, and it helps those who have already developed them. This ensures better quality of life for employees, and they can feel better at work and outside of work, fully resting, and enjoying what life has to offer to the fullest.

The interconnectedness of our work and personal lives

It's surprising how many things are interconnected and can impact different aspects of our lives. However, it is clear that having occupational support can positively impact employees in all aspects of their life, creating multiple benefits for everyone. Having occupational health support ensures that employees can have a good work life and a good home life, helping create a better balance. A healthy workforce creates a healthy business and vice versa.
